Different vendors offer different percentages. If you have never checked out Scrip.com before, go on line and check it out? You will be amazed at how fast the credits add up!
We have more band parents using PrestoPay – this is a program where you order Scrip cards and once you sign up for PrestoPay, the money is taken directly out of your checking account – removes the worries of your child remembering to get the check in the band box. Presto Pay also allows you to shop throughout the month – some vendors require you to print off the paper document and others allow you to download to your smart phone. All purchases throughout the month will be captured in the reporting process and credited back to your child’s band account. Half of the credit goes into your child’s account and the other half goes toward the band.
Winter Guard Families - SCRIP is a great fundraiser to help you pay participation fees, banquet tickets or anything else band & guard related. You can even carry over credits for next year's participation fee. You order online and usually place your check in the in the blue band box at the high school...since winter guard does not practice at NHS we suggest using Presto Pay so you do not have to drop off checks. You an also contact Kris to mail a check or meet her. Please contact Kris with any questions!
Word of caution using Presto Pay –
Double check your order prior to processing as it is not easy to reverse a payment. When ordering Big Y or Caraluzzi gift cards there is a minimum of $500 for Big Y and $1,000 for Caraluzzi. Please place your order separately for these vendors and include a separate check. This way if the minimum is not met, we can easily return the check to you.

The BOS honored the Band and Guard at their recent meeting. Here is the article from the Newtown Bee:
BOS Honors NHS National Champion Band And Guard
Published: December 12, 2017
The beginning of a new administration for most local boards and commissions typically involves a number of administrative and “housekeeping” practices.
But newly seated First Selectman Dan Rosenthal put most of those formalities aside during his first Board of Selectman meeting, December 4, to spend a few minutes honoring the Newtown Nighthawks Band and Guard for their recent national championship victory.
About two dozen members of the ensemble and the Director of Bands Kurt Eckhardt, along with several proud parents and siblings, crowded into the Municipal Center Council Chambers to hear remarks from Mr Rosenthal, Selectman Maureen Crick Owen, and Selectman Jeff Capeci, all of whom marveled at a towering trophy that was brought along after being conferred to the Nighthawks for their first place performance at the USBands Open Class National Championships.
“Our band has long been the pride of Newtown — back to Joe Grasso,” Mr Rosenthal said. “The band is something the community has always been proud of, and winning a National Championship is an incredible thing.”
The first selectman then issued a proclamation, which in part recalled that the marching band has been the Connecticut State Champions four of the last seven years. It noted the group’s outstanding performance of its 2017 presentation “Dystopia,” which is based on George Orwell’s novel 1984, was honed in performance as they won nine competitive band events leading up to the National Championships at MetLife stadium.
The proclamation also singled out the ensemble’s winning turn at the New England States Class IV championship, where it competed against 15 other groups representing six different states; and noted that the student musicians and guard members collective participation in the Newtown Nighthawks Marching Band and Guard “will be an enduring experience that will positively effect members for a lifetime.”
All those involved then stood with Mr Eckhardt and the board officials for a photo op before heading out and leaving the selectmen to complete the remainder of the brief first meeting.
