Welcome new Band & Guard parents! We are so glad to have your family joining us.
There is a lot of information regarding the band and guard and we are sure you have many questions. Your first step should be to read the Band and Guard Handbook. Many of your questions should be answered there.
The Newtown High School Band Parents Corporation (NHSBPC) is the parent group that supports and assists the various band and guard programs. Please check out our page. Parent involvement makes for a smooth running program and we are always looking for volunteers! Feel free to contact us to get involved. Contact info is listed on our page.
You can also read the individual pages for the Band and Guard. Pay attention to the Band Uniform Care page. Our uniforms have to last us year to year. Proper care keeps our uniform costs down.
Make sure to check out the fundraising page. It is possible to pay for your child’s full fees by fundraising. There are plenty of opportunities. Fundraising does not cover the cost of admission to events, but if you chaperone or help out with the pit crew you do not have to pay to get in.
If you still have questions, contact your buddy! Each family is assigned a buddy in the beginning of the season. This is a veteran parent who can help you out. Your buddy should contact you by the first week of summer practices. If you do not get contacted, please let someone on the parent board know.
Your child can always reach out to their section leaders. That is their first go-to contact for all questions and problems. Throughout the summer and season your child’s section leaders will have “bonding time” outside of practices. These get-togethers create a strong union between the individual sections. Please make every attempt to have your child attend.
The practices and all events can be found on the schedule page. All events and practices are also listed on the calendar and updated as the board email is sent out. Usually by the Wednesday before a competition the calendar has been updated with the correct times and locations. There are directions to add this calendar to your smart phone on the bottom of the calendar webpage. From there, you can click on the location and get directions on your phone.
Sometimes individual section leaders hold a practice outside of the normal times. These are not put on the calendar. Your child should alert you to these.
Please make sure to visit the media pages! We have a highlights page with current and past season videos. We also have a links page with links to videos and pictures from events and competitions. Feel free to send us a link to your photo page or video! It has to be a link to a public page, individual pictures and videos cannot be uploaded and should not be sent. You can send your links to [email protected].
We know that all of this information can be overwhelming! Please reach out if you need us. If you can’t get through to your buddy, you can always contact a board member. We are glad to have you here!
