NHS Band and Guard Orientation

The Newtown High School Band Program is a dynamic, year-round community of student musicians, performers, and families committed to excellence, teamwork, and personal growth through music.
The program includes high school classes such as Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble, as well as a wide range of extracurricular opportunities open to all Newtown students in grades 7–12. These include the Jazz Big Band, Jazz Combo, two competitive Winter Guards (2025 Champions Varsity and JV), and a championship Indoor Percussion Program.
Our much-awarded Fall Marching Band and Color Guard compete in USBands and are a cornerstone of the program—performing across the region, at NHS football games, and at beloved community events like the Newtown Labor Day Parade.
Band students are constantly active in the community—sharing their music and leadership at events like the Earth Day Festival, the Newtown Arts Festival, school concerts, playing in the pit orchestra for the musical, and through service in the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Just as importantly, our band families and parent volunteers are a vital part of the program’s success, creating a strong, welcoming support network that helps every student thrive.
Whether on the field, on the stage, or in the streets of our town, Newtown Band students represent the very best of what young people can accomplish together.
