The following is the press release from USBands regarding the location change for the Yamaha Cup: Northeast: Yamaha Cup: Northeast Relocates to Rutgers University for 2018 Due to a conflict in scheduling with the National Football League and MetLife Stadium, the 2018 Yamaha Cup: Northeast will relocate to HighPoint Solutions Stadium on the campus of Rutgers University. On Saturday, October 13, Yamaha Cup: Northeast will feature more than 40 high school bands in competition at the region's most prestigious collegiate football stadium. Jon Swengler, Director of USBands said in making the announcement, "When we learned of the scheduling conflict with MetLife Stadium over the summer, we immediately went to work on solutions that would first, guarantee all students an opportunity to perform at a world-class facility and second, allow for bands to continue their seasons uninterrupted while receiving feedback the highest quality adjudication panels. We worked through numerous options with MetLife and others to provide the best outcome possible for educators, students and parents. We can't thank the great teams enough at Rutgers University for welcoming us to their campus and the team at MetLife enough for working with us, where we are excited to return on November 10 for the USBands Open Class National Championships." The schedule conflict from the NFL stems from back-to-back New York Jets and New York Giants home games at MetLife Stadium on Oct. 11 and Oct. 14. Turnover at the dual-team facility takes a great deal of time and manpower and as this is the first time such a scheduling challenge like this occurred, the decision to host the Yamaha Cup: Northeast elsewhere was made. The USBands team was able to secure HighPoint Solutions Stadium as the Rutgers football team was scheduled for an away game on Oct. 13. Since then, USBands has been in constant communication with registered bands in order to reschedule performers into a combination of performing at Rutgers University or local events in New Jersey and Connecticut. A number of bands have also joined into the November 10 National Championship at MetLife Stadium as a special USBands 30th Anniversary Celebration event. "In the end, we have been able to relocate every band into a high-quality event on October 13, and all bands that would like to perform at MetLife Stadium has been accommodated for 2018," concluded Swengler. Registration for the USBands 30th Anniversary Celebration at MetLife Stadium is currently open to 10 A Class Bands who will have the opportunity to compete or perform during the daylong USBands National Championships.
